Weekend Watch List: Summer Begins!

Welcome to Watch List, where we identify five things on TV to watch while you stay at home and welcome summer with open arms. Grilling outside! Hanging by the pool! Staring wistfully out your window at work while other people enjoy the nice weather! Homeless people in open-toed shoes! Summer is magic! LET’S GO!

NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT – 8:00PM Sunday (PBS) I love these big national holiday celebrations on PBS because they always bring together the most random assortment of famous people. To wit, this year’s Memorial Day concert features Gen. Colin Powell, BB King, Pia Toscano, Dianne Wiest (Dianne Wiest!), and Forest Whitaker. And Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna are hosting! It’s like someone took a David Mamet film and transplanted it to a concert stage! ANTICIPATION: PARTY-TIME!

THE KILLING – 10:00PM Sunday (AMC) Things heated up at the end of last week’s episode, with Stanley goin’ all gangsta on the Mr. Dreadlocks (told you he was a red herring!). But we still have four whole episodes left before we’re gonna know who iced Rosie. So this better not be the last Polish mafia beatdown I see in between now and then. And how about Stanley’s mover friend punching the rock just to get his aggression out? That was a total metal move. ANTICIPATION: JUICY!

MY BIG FAT GYPSY WEDDING – 9:00PM Sunday (TLC) Think gypsies are a bunch of traveling thieves who try and nick your wallet while throwing a baby at you? WRONG. This new TLC series goes a little deeper, exploring gypsy culture and customs, including gypsy weddings. Which I’m told produce many gypsy tears, and you know how valuable gypsy tears are. ANTICIPATION: GIVE ME YOUR TEARS, GYPSY!

WHY NOT? WITH SHANIA TWAIN – 10:00PM Sunday (OWN) Shania needs time to find herself, so she goes off to Taos to go rock climbing. Celebrities, they’re just like you and I! ANTICIPATION: TWAINY!

MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN – 9:00PM Sunday (IFC) “There shall in that time be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment. At that time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer, and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock.” ANTICIPATION: BEST MOVIE EVER!
