Heather Burian is the New London County reporter for NBC Connecticut. You can see her reports weekdays on NBC Connecticut News from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Heather feels very fortunate to be covering the Southeast corner of the state, making daily stops along the water as part of her workday routine to soak up the shoreline’s "stunning beauty."
Heather is passionate about taking you live to the scene of breaking news and uncovering information that empowers you and your family to make important decisions. She is not afraid to investigate, dig for answers and ask tough questions, especially when it leads to change for a person or a community.
One of Heather’s most memorable stories was her exclusive interview with a woman who swindled a town out of thousands of dollars by pretending she had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Heather pressed this woman for answers and demanded to know why she preyed upon people’s kindness by faking a terminal disease. She was also part of a reporting team whose coverage mobilized a community to help find a young girl who had been kidnapped.
Prior to joining the NBC Connecticut team, Heather worked at WVLT in Knoxville, Tennessee, and WXOW in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Heather grew up in New York and graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Madison with a journalism degree and a certificate in criminal justice.
In her spare time, Heather loves exploring the shoreline, hiking and spending time with family. She’s always looking for new places to check out.
