Chris Brown Finally Apologizes for Rihanna

Singing a sad song

Chris Brown is finally owning up to beating down Rihanna.

Four weeks after he pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault on his pop-singer girlfriend the R&B star issued a videotaped apology, saying the video mea culpa goes against the advice of his lawyer.

“I have told Rihanna countless times that I am sorry,” Brown said in a video posted on his YouTube page. “I wish I had the chance to live those few moments over again, but unfortunately I can’t. I cannot go into what happened and most importantly I can’t make any excuses.

“I take great pride in being able to exercise self-control and what I did was inexcusable.”

Brown said in the video that he continues to seek help to make sure that what happened in February will not and cannot happen again, referring to the 52-weeks of court mandated anger management classes he was ordered to attend in the wake of his post-Grammy party assault on Rihanna.

A restraining order that requires Brown to stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna, which should help him make sure something like the February incident, which left Rihanna beaten and bruised, never happens again either.

The video is the first time Brown has spoken publicly about the event. He says on the tape, however, that he plans to give more interviews and public comments about the assault in the near future. As part of his plea deal sentence on June 23, Brown received 180 days of community service and five years of supervised probation.

Brown is trying to rehabilitate his image, lately, but keeps hitting setbacks. Recently it was rumored that Brown was bumped from performing at the BET Awards, which turned into a Michael Jackson tribute, because Al Sharpton lobbied against him. Brown says he’ll continue to live his life so that he is worthy of the term role model.
