According to ABC News, Lance sustained the injury following a cyclists' pile-up in the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon race in Spain that caused him to fall off his bike.

How the surgery will affect his plans to compete once more in July's Tour de France – an event Lance has won a record seven times – is unknown, but fans can likely count on the athlete to Tweet all about it.
