Angelina Jolie has been named the new special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees, over ten years after she began serving as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.

Angelina Jolie has big changes afoot, and they're not only what you think.

The actress-turned-director has just been named a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, it was announced Tuesday, according to E! Online.

Jolie's new appointment comes after she spent more than a decade serving as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.

In her new post, she'll represent the High Commissioner for Refugees at a diplomatic level, meeting with governments and diplomats, E! reported.

"She is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people," a spokesman for the commissioner said.

"I don't think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she is getting for the plight of the world's displaced," he added.
