Rep: Police Questioning Of Paris Hilton In South Africa A ‘Complete Misunderstanding'

Paris Hilton has claimed through a rep that her reported arrest in South Africa on a marijuana charge on Friday was a "complete misunderstanding."

Earlier on Friday, South Africa's News24 reported that it had confirmed that the celebutante was arrested on a "drug related charge." Additionally, an unnamed police officer told the Associated Press that she had been "found in possession of some amount of dagga," a local nickname for marijuana. Hilton's rep, however, told Access Hollywood on Friday it was all a big mistake.

"Paris Hilton was questioned today by police in South Africa on allegations of smoking marijuana," Hilton's rep said in a statement to Access. "I can confirm that the incident was a complete misunderstanding and it was actually another person in the group who did it."

The rep added that, "the case has been dropped against Paris and no charges will be made."

Hilton's rep said authorities had "apologized for wrongfully accusing her since she had nothing to do with the incident," adding, "Paris is having an incredible time at the World Cup."

Hilton had been attending the Brazil vs. Netherlands World Cup match when she was escorted by police at around 8 PM local time to the Mount Road Police station in St. Croix, South Africa's DispatchOnline previously reported.

The star herself hit Twitter on Friday evening, claiming she actually had not been arrested as had been reported by several news agenicies, including the AP.

"Everything is completely fine. I was not charged or arrested, cause I didn't do anything," she wrote. "I was assisting the police with the investigation and answering their questions. Everyone was super nice and friendly to me. I love South Africa! Such an amazing place, especially during The World Cup! Hope that clears everything up."
