Taylor Swift Gets Bangs in a New Haircut

New look is sophisticated and soft; more mature as she turns 22

Taylor Swift traded her flowing, romantic waves for a hip new haircut with bangs this week.

She showed off the new look at the Billboard's Women in Music event in New York today, one day after she announced the change on Twitter with a picture and the short message, "Got a haircut."

Swift's long blond locks regularly get rave reviews from fashion critics at awards shows, where she often wears her hair in flowing waves or soft up-dos. The new cut is more sophisticated and sexy, with a long fringe of bangs over her eyes and face-framing layers; more successful young career woman and less high school prom queen.

Swift will turn 22 this month and is one of the hottest cross-over artists today, popular with country fans and teenage pop fans alike. Her hits include "You Belong With Me" and "Teardrops on My Guitar."

She just won the American Music Awards' Artist of the Year, as well as the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year title. She was nominated for three 2012 Grammy awards this week, all in the country music category.

Billboard named her its Woman of the Year yesterday. She told the magazine she is conscious of how her looks can influence her legions of teenage fans, and considers that a responsibility of being a star.

"The reality is what you wear matters," she said. "If you're a singer and on TV and in the living room of some 12-year-old girl, she's watching what you're wearing and saying and doing."

This isn't the first time Swift has tried bangs; she also wore the look about this time last year to the American Music Awards.
