Wanda Sykes On Her Mom Duties: ‘I Handle Everything That Comes Out'

Wanda Sykes has only been a mom for a few weeks, but she's already using her twins for jokes.

"Babies are very inconsiderate," the star told Jay Leno on Wednesday's "Tonight Show." "Everyone said twins, so they should be there maybe after 35 weeks… [but then], nothing. Just sitting around waiting. I was like, 'Babies, you gotta hurry up and get here, I have a big White House correspondents' gig coming up! I got a gig, baby!'"

The twins, born to wife Alex, arrived in April, weeks before her performance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on May 9 – and Wanda said she and her spouse have divided the child care responsibilities.

"She's breast feeding so Alex takes care of everything that goes in and I handle everything that comes out," Wanda said.

Wanda was also in the delivery room for the birth, which she said "was not pretty."

"I was there," she said. "I was hands on and you know, when the doctors tell you 'Don't look this way?' Don't look that way!"

Wanda came out at a rally for gay rights last November in Las Vegas, where she revealed she'd gotten married to Alex in California on October 25 of last year. And she got serious with Jay, addressing the California Supreme Court's upholding of the state's anti-gay marriage law, Prop. 8, which was announced on Tuesday.

"Very disappointed," Wanda said of the ruling, though she couldn't go too long without cracking a joke. "[Alex] had her fingers crossed, I was like, 'Wait a minute! Is this fingers crossed that she's out or that she's in!'"
