‘Friday The 13th' Stars Bring The Love On Valentine's Day

Does a movie date with Jason Voorhees fit into your Valentine’s Day weekend plans? The stars of the new “Friday the 13th” update seem to think so.

“Nothing says ‘Love’ more than a trip to camp Crystal Lake,” says Derek Mears, who takes on the role of Jason Voorhees — the new man behind the hockey mask.

“That’s what you want to do though. Sit there with your girl next to you. That adrenanline rush. She gets scared. She grabs you a little tighter. It’s pretty great,” Mears promises.

Jared Padalecki, who also stars in the CW’s ‘Supernatural’ agrees. “I have to say the best person to see a scary movie with is a date and to get scared together to hoot and holler and scream.”

Access Hollywood caught up with Padalecki and Mears from the new ‘Friday the 13th’ to talk up the reboot of the classic slasher franchise shortly after screening footage for thousands of eager fans at New York Comic-Con.

“It so nice to get so much support form the fans,” said Mears regarding the enthusiastic response to the first look at the film.

‘I’ve been a fan growing up and Jason is my favorite horror icon,” Mears continued, who could not have been more excited to don the hockey mask.

“I’m so proud to be a part of it. They take some of the best elements of the previous films and give us something brand new,” Mears said in regards to the Michael Bay produced film.

Jared Padalecki acknowledges that some of the slasher movie clichés the previous films in the series became guilty of throughout the years. “‘Friday the 13th’ got to the point where it just got campy and cheesy. It got really predictable. And not scary. It was fine and fun and campy for what it was.”

He is also quick to point out how the new film fixes those flaws, ‘This really brings back the raw sort of visceral fear. It’s fun to be a part of.”

Mears is happy that Jason has also been amped up for new audiences and is not the lumbering mindless villain seen in the ten previous “Friday the 13th” films and the 11th, in which he battled “A Nightmare On Elm Street’s” Freddy Krueger.

“He’s really smart in this one. He actually sets people up. He uses his head. He runs he jumps. You‘ll see Jason do things he’s never done before. I’m really happy with the script and what they’ve done.”

Although this is a fresh take on the series, rest assured, the timeless horror movie formula indeed remains intact.

“You gotta have some skin. You gotta have some kills. You gotta have a lot blood. You gotta have chase scenes and all that stuff. There’s definitely an equation but it’s just how you do it. But these guys made it real and scary and made it for new generation. We’re still playing homage to the originals,” said Padalecki.

“It’s the perfect movie to see for the perfect day for the perfect weekend. ‘Friday the 13th’ and the next day is Valentine’s Day. So cool,” concluded Padalecki.
