“Car Talk” Co-Host Tom Magliozzi Dead at 77

He died of complications from Alzheimer's disease

Tom Magliozzi, the co-host of the popular National Public Radio show "Car Talk," has died at 77, the public radio network announced Monday afternoon.

Magliozzi died of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He and his brother Ray were better known as "Click and Clack" on the weekly NPR show. The brothers grew up in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, and hosted the radio show on local public radio station WBUR before taking it national in 1987.

The following message was posted on the Car Talk Facebook page around 2:45 p.m.:

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

In a statement, NPR president and CEO Jarl Mohn called Magliozzi's death a "heartbreaking loss" for the company and millions of listeners.

"Countless people first discovered public radio by laughing along with Click and Clack every Saturday morning. Through Car Talk, Tom is one of those responsible for transforming NPR into the institution it is today," he said.
