Amid global concern about raging fires in the Amazon, celebrities are using their platforms to increase awareness and urge world leaders to curb the widespread deforestation.

Brazil contains about 60 percent of the Amazon rainforest, whose degradation could have severe consequences for global climate and rainfall.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro previously described rainforest protections as an obstacle to economic development and has said he wants to convert land for cattle pastures and soybean farms.

Leonardo DiCaprio regrammed an Instagram post by Rainforest Alliance in which they said Bolsonaro "issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January."

Madonna was also critical of the president on social media.

"President Bolsonaro please change your policies and help not only your country but the whole planet," the "Material Girl" singer said in an Instagram post.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, singer Miguel, "Queer Eye" host Bobby Berk, pop star Camila Cabello, and numerous celebs also took to social media with their reactions to the devastating situation.

#TodospelaAmazonia #PrayforAmazonia #TogetherfortheAmazon The forest plays a key role in balancing the Earth's climate and consequently in our lives. We cannot close our eyes to what is happening in the Amazon. The increased burnings have been destroying in days, what nature takes years, centuries to build. I've spent a lot of time there and was able to see closely how everything happens, especially how opportunists take advantage of the dry season to destroy and clear the forest. Deforestation in the Amazon has to stop...for our health and the health of our planet!

#Regram #RG @rainforesttrust Fires are a major issue for our rainforests and our planet. These fires are intensified by many factors, including the climate crisis and deforestation. Loss of habitat through illegal logging and development exacerbates the intensity and duration of these fires, helping to create situations like the one in the Brazilian Amazon today. . Wondering what you can do to help? . 1. Keep informed about the situation. Sites like Global Forest Watch Fires (http://fires.globalforestwatch.org/home/) provide valuable information about the fires going on right now. . 2. Share your passion for the rainforest with your friends. Educate others about this issue and why it is so important. . 3. Try changing your daily habits to be more environmentally friendly. Purchasing environmentally-friendly products and reducing or reusing paper is a great way to start!. . 4. If you can, make your voice for the environment heard in your local and national elections. . 5. Support organizations like Rainforest Trust. While we can't help stop these particular fires, our work to prevent deforestation helps stop fires like this from happening again. . . . . #amazonfires #amazon #rainforest #wildlife #nature #deforestation #saveacres

The lungs of our planet are currently on fire. The Amazon Rain forest produces 20% of our entire planets oxygen and it’s currently burning at a rate of 1.5 soccer fields a minute. Without vegetation to protect the land, scientist predict the rainforest will turn into a desert the likes of the Sahara. Think there is nothing you can do to help? Think again! Help buy land in the rain forest so that we can protect it even when the Brazilain government will not. These lands are being set on fire deliberately in order to clear lands for animal agriculture. Reducing your meat consumption is one action you can take on a personal level to lessen the need for more open lands. Visit @rainforesttrust to learn more. You can also reduce your paper/wood consumption or ensure you buy rainforest safe products. Donate money to @amazonwatch for the fight against climate change or adopt a jungle animal through @wwf or @world_wildlife #amazon #amazonfire #amazonfires #rainforest #amazonrainforestfire #climatechange #brazil
