Katy Perry Reaches Record 100M Twitter Followers

Perry joined the social media platform in 2009

According to the most recent estimate, Twitter averages 328 million users monthly. Today, it appears that nearly a third of those users are Katy Perry fans.

The pop star became the first person to reach 100 million Twitter followers Friday. Perry joined the social media platform in 2009 and has been active ever since, with 8,000 tweets and counting. Twitter showed love for its most followed user with the release of a custom emoji in Perry’s honor.

Significant moments in Perry’s career have been recorded on the social media platform, such the fascination with #LeftShark after her 2015 Super Bowl performance and the announcement of her world tour performances. The singer most recently announced the “Witness” album and tour in a tweet on May 15, 2017.

Fellow celebrities are not far behind Perry in reaching the 100 million mark. Justin Bieber is a close second with 96.7 million followers, and Taylor Swift, with whom Perry has feuded, has 85.1 million followers.
