Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Hire Surrogate to Carry Baby No. 3

Certain medical conditions make Kardashian West more likely to have complications during pregnancy

Let the name game begin.

Multiple sources tell E! News that Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West have decided to have another baby using a surrogate. Because of a condition she has known as placenta acreta, delivering a third baby herself could be potentially life-threatening for Kardashian West.

The E! reality star has publicly contemplated whether or not to have another child. In the Nov. 13, 2016, episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kardashian West said she "would love to maybe" have another baby and visited an OB-GYN to weigh her options. Because she suffered from toxemia and a retained placenta, the doctor said the odds of her having another difficult pregnancy would be higher.

Kardashian West has been open about discussing her fertility issues. In 2015, she told E! news she didn't "think it was possible" to get pregnant a second time, and that she had a "miserable" time carrying Saint, now 18 months. "Every medical issue that you could probably have, I feel like I get, and I worry so much about it,” she stated, adding "I just don't think pregnancy and me really agree with each other."

The media mogul previously blogged about the hardships of her first pregnancy. Diagnosed with early-onset pre-eclampsia, she had to deliver her now-4-year-old daughter North at just 34 weeks (about six weeks early). “My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails. How disgusting and painful!!!” she wrote, describing the ordeal as “the most painful experience of my life!”

She later had to have surgery to remove a piece of the placenta, followed by a second surgery to remove the remaining scar tissue.

Neither Kardashian nor her husband has publicly commented on the surrogacy news.
