FILE - Louis Tomlinson of the musical group One Direction poses in the press room at the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday, May 17, 2015, in Las Vegas.

Louis Tomlinson wants to ensure that he spends as much time with his 5-month-old son as possible.

E! News can confirm that the One Direction singer has filed for joint custody of little Freddie Reign.

TMZ reports that his time with the baby has been "inconsistent" in recent weeks, and that Louis will be seeking 50/50 physical and legal custody, from his ex-girlfriend Briana Jungwirth.  'Big' News! When asked if he's ever had any experience with changing diapers, he admitted, "Have I changed a nappy? I'd actually probably changed about a hundred nappies before Freddie because I used to help out with my sister so I have changed his nappy, thank you!"

He also revealed that he was "still getting used to" being away from his firstborn while on tour with One Direction, addeding "I miss him, obviously, but it's cool. I do get Father's Day now."

On the annual celebration of dads, Louis took to Instagram to share a shot of him holding Freddie's little hand.

In the caption, the singer wrote, "Happy Father's Day to every lucky lad out there who's someone's daddy! Thoroughly enjoyed my first. Love you Freddie son X."

Louis became a father in January of this year after briefly dating the Los Angeles-based stylist last year.
