Sufjan Stevens Gives Miley Cyrus “Quick Grammar Lesson”

Another musician has written an open letter to offer Miley Cyrus sage advice. But this critique has nothing to do with her racy performances.

Indie rocker Sufjan Stevens took to Tumblr to let Cyrus know about a grammar faux pas in her Bangerz track "#GetItRight." The singer cited Cyrus' "great song, great message, great body," but suggested she needed "a quick grammar lesson." He took issue with the line "I been laying in this bed all night long."

"Miley, technically speaking, you’ve been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there’s an object, i.e. 'I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long,'" Stevens wrote. "Whatever. I’m not the best lyricist, but you know what I mean."

Cyrus, who recently was ensnared in a social media spat with Sinead O'Connor over a series of letters, has yet to respond Stevens' language lesson. The critique, however, was followed up by some playful and complimentary words.

"Miley, I love you because you’re the Queen, grammatically and anatomically speaking," he wrote. "And you’re the hottest cake in the pan. Don’t ever grow old. Live brightly before your fire fades into total darkness."
