"Eclipse" Sets Midnight Box Office Record

New “Twilight” film eclipses franchise’s own midnight box office record

    The "Twi-Hards" have come through again.

    “Twilight’s” latest film raked in more than $30 million with its midnight opening on Tuesday, surpassing the franchise's previous box office record, according to reports.

    The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” opened on 4,416 screens across the U.S., which also set a record for the widest-ever release for a film, E! News reported.

    Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson's return to the silver screen in the teen vampire-werewolf thriller will enjoy an even wider release on Friday, according to E!

    “New Moon,” the second “Twilight” film, last held the midnight box office record for its $26.3 million opening take. It went on to earn $709 million worldwide, Reuters reported.

    By comparison, the first film of the saga earned $392.5 million at the global box office.
