Hip-Hop Star Drake Postpones European Tour to be With Ailing Mom

Drake's European fans will have to thank him later.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the hip-hop newcomer is postponing all dates on his scheduled European tour due to his mother's struggles with an unrevealed aliment.

“Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated,” the rapper said in a statement. “In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years. I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy during this time.”

The former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” actor was set to perform at several major festivals in the coming weeks, including T in the Park in Scotland and Oxegen in Ireland, according to British music magazine, NME.

Fan shouldn’t fret though: anyone holding tickets for Drake’s London, Paris and Amsterdam shows should be on the lookout for a slate of rescheduled dates in November.

The tour is set to resume in mid-July in Canada.
