When Javier Colon took the stage in Atlanta on Tuesday night, he opened up with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”
It was the first time he’d sung the song, he posted on Facebook. He’d made the decision to perform it just minutes before going on stage.
“I think she lived in ATL so I had been thinking about her all day and wanted to do something in honor of her,” Colon posted on Facebook.
Houston is from New Jersey but had lived in Alpharetta, a suburb of Atlanta.
Colon, a Stratford native and Hartt School of Music alum who now lives in West Hartford, is on tour after winning “The Voice” last season.
The audience appears to have loved his version and his Facebook fans who were not there have been posting that they think his rendition was beautiful.
