Dane Cook Talks Getting “Kanye'd” During “American Idol” Finale Performance

Dane Cook now knows how Taylor Swift felt.

During his "American Idol" performance on Wednesday night's season finale, the comedian was serenading Simon Cowell with an original satire song called "Simon Said," using some of the "Idol" judge's most memorable barbs over the years as lyrics.

Adding to the performance, "Idol" producers decided to bring out a handful of rejects from seasons past, many of which were the targets of Simon's critiques.

Halfway through his song, however, one of those rejects hijacked the mic for some unexpected self-promotion.

Ian Bernardo, a castoff from season seven's early audition rounds, grabbed the mic and quickly had something to say to Simon.

"Who cares? It's all about Ian Benardo tonight!" the interrupting reject said on national TV. "I'm going to replace you, Simon Cowell! No one has a thing to say about you, just me… and I want to say I'm replacing you, Simon Cowell, because I'm more entertaining than you!"

As this was happening, a stunned Dane stood in the background with guitar in hand.

"If you missed it I got Kanye'd on American Idol," Dane posted on his Twitter page shortly after the incident. "Wild. Luckily at the end of the song. Simon loved it."

While the comedian played it cool, he noted things might have gone very differently had Benardo come at him.

"That was not staged," Dane Tweeted. "Weirdo hijacked the song. Just glad he didn't hit me in the face w/the mic or Americal Idol would b American Beatdown."

Not to be outdone, a fellow reject – season eight's memorable Hollywood round crying castoff, Tatiana del Toro, tried to grab the mic from Benardo for her own moment in the spotlight, but Bernardo would have none of it.

"Nobody cares about you," Benardo said, as he blocked Del Toro from grabbing the mic. "It's all about Ian Benardo."
