Fallon to Air Ice Cube, Roots Impromptu “Straight Outta Compton” Clip

Sometimes the best stuff does get left on the cutting room floor.

According to the New York Daily News, a jam session between Ice Cube and The Roots, the "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" in-house band, that didn't make it into the original episode last month will get a proper airing next week.

The former N.W.A rapper reprised one the band's biggest hits, the hard-hitting "Straight Outta Compton," with the Roots during a pre-filming warm-up session. The live instrumentation gave the song a completely new spin.

"This is the perfect example of how much fun our show is, even when the cameras aren't rolling," Fallon said in a statement.

The video was shot by a "Late Night" staff member and is being matched against the audio recorded in the studio.

"Ice Cube and the Roots put on an awesome show for the studio audience that night," Fallon said, "and I'm so excited we now get the chance to show it to everyone else."

The video, which originally leaked after Roots' drummer ?estlove posted a missive on Twitter, went viral and got tons of hits online, but the video and audio quality was always less than stellar. Next week's airing should provide fanboys and girls a copy for their archives.
