HBO Developing Dick Cheney Miniseries

HBO has done gangsters, vampires, and demonic carnies - so what resource will they mine for entertainment next?

How about the GOP?

Coming on the heels of the announcement that HBO is producing "Game Change," a film to be directed by Jay Roach about John McCain's 2008 run for the presidency (Julianne Moore was recently cast as Sarah Palin), comes word that the cable network is also planning a miniseries about former Vice President Dick Cheney.

According to Deadline, the Barton Gellman book "Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency" has been optioned by HBO and will form the basis of the series. Rick Cleveland - who worked with Aaron Sorkin on "The West Wing" and also on HBO's "Six Feet Under" - will adapt the book.

No word on casting yet, but Cheney has been portrayed on film once before by Richard Dreyfuss in the Oliver Stone movie "W."
