Head to Canterbury and get free admission to the Prudence Crandall Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prudence Crandall opened a private academy in 1831 for the daughters of the white families of Canterbury and neighboring communities, but Sarah Harris was accepted as the first black student at the Academy and Crandall decided in in 1833 to close the school and re-open it as one exclusively for “young Ladies and Little misses of color.”nso see the full list online.

During Connecticut Open House Day, the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society will offer free admission from noon to 4 p.m. Stroll through the historic birthplace of founding father, educator, author and lexicographer, Noah Webster. Bring the kids and let them feel what it was like to grow up during the 18th century by playing in the museum’s interactive Noah’s Discovering Learning Center play space. Both the permanent exhibit, “Noah Webster: Defining American,” and a temporary exhibit featuring local artist Chris Straus will also be on view. Learn more about the house here.
