In Friendly CT TV Softball Tournament, Supporting Charity is the Home Run

NBC Connecticut fielded a team for the 4th annual Connecticut TV Softball Tournament, losing games to FOX CT and WFSB, but having fun in a friendly tournament to raise money for charity.

NBC Connecticut Sports Director Kevin Nathan, First Alert Meteorologist Monica Cryan, Troubleshooters Len Besthoff and George Colli, reporter Seth Lemon and more NBC Connecticut staff suited up to run the bases against FOX CT, WTNH, and WFSB at Mills Woods Park in Wethersfield. WTNH won the tournament over FOX CT in the championship game.

"We fielded a team, we got jerseys, and it's an absolutely beautiful day," Troubleshooter George Colli said.

NBC Connecticut was nine runs behind FOX CT at one point in the first game.

"Yeah, I don't think there's anything the Troubleshooters can do about this one today," Colli quipped.

However, NBC Connecticut rallied to come within a few points of FOX CT. WFSB won the consolation game.

But in the end, the tournament is about fun and helping raise money for charity more so than the scores.

As for our most valuable player on the field? Dan Clarke, NBC Connecticut's coach, nominated Kevin Nathan from game one.

"Kevin Nathan's made some great plays out in the field for us," Clarke said.

Nathan covered the winter Olympics in Sochi a few months ago. When asked if he would call Saturday's tournament Sochi, Wethersfield, Nathan joked, "Sochi, Wethersfield. The security's equally tight, given the celebrity status of the people out here."

The public was invited to watch and cheer on their Connecticut broadcast news stations and support a good cause.
