Sailfest, sponsored in part by NBC Connecticut, means more than 250 vendors this weekend in New London, along with the tall ship Mystic Whaler. On Saturday night, it means fireworks.
"We have a great support from the city of New London so we hope - next year could be a different story - but this year we're gonna have a fireworks show and it's sponsored by Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation," Barbara Neff, Sailfest’s executive director, said.
Besides the waterfront, Bank Street will be full of people also. One band got an early start on Sailfest with the Hygienic's Thursday Afternoon Lunch Break - Modern Primates.
They play on Friday afternoon at the Hygienic stage and it'll be one band after the other there and on two other stages.
Once the festival organizers cover their costs, whatever money's left over goes back to the community through different donations over the course of the year.
