Wadsworth Atheneum, Nation's Oldest Museum, Appoints New Director

The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford has hired a new director from a museum in Massachusetts.

Thomas Loughman is a director at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum says Loughman will begin in February as director and chief executive officer. He'll be the museum's 11th director and succeeds Susan Talbott, who announced her retirement a year ago.

The Hartford museum was founded in 1842 and is the nation's oldest public art museum. It recently completed a $33 million renovation.

It has 50,000 works of art ranging from Greek and Roman antiquities to contemporary American pieces.
