Connecticut Golfers to Compete in Junior PGA Championship

The 2014 Connecticut Section Junior PGA Championship is fast approaching.

The event will take place the first two days in July at the Ranch Golf Club in Soutwich, Massachusetts.

Winners in the boys' and girls' divisions will join 150 peers at the 39th Junior PGA Championship from July 29 to Aug. 1. Qualifiers include one boy and one girl from each of the 41 PGA sections around the country.

The Junior PGA Championship is considered the first step on the road to the regular PGA and LPGA Tours, as well as collegiate careers, according to the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. Stars who have made the transition from juniors to the professionals include Tiger Woods, In-Bee Park, Jim Furyk, Luke Guthrie, Trevor Immelman and Cristie Kerr.

Chartered in 1933 as a not-for-profit organization, The Connecticut Section of PGA of America has 350 members who are employed at over 170 golf facilities throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.

The PGA Travelers Championship was held in Cromwell last weekend.
