March means Guinness, green and the luck of the Irish.
As Connecticut gears up for St. Patrick’s Day, residents around the state are celebrating all month long with parties, concerts and parades.
March 15:
Celebrations kick off this weekend with the Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s parade, scheduled for Friday at noon.
Anna Liffey's of New Haven will ring in the holiday weekend with a fundraiser for the Dennis Leary Firefighter Foundation Friday, March 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. The fundraiser, sponsored by Guinness, will feature live performances, prizes and drink specials.
Down in Norwich, the Irish music group Celticity will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. The three musicians will sing and perform an array of traiditonal instrumets, such as an Irish drum called the bodhran.
March 16:
Celticity will perform at the Fellowship Hall United Congregational Church in Norwich at 8 p.m.
Hop over to Hartford for the much-anticipated St. Paddy’s PubCrawl. The crawl, sponsored by pubcrawls.com, takes place March 16 and 17 and prides itself on being the “world’s largest pub crawl.” Participants will enjoy $2 domestic drafts, $3 domestic bottles and a $5 Irish special.
The annual New York City parade will take place Saturday, March 16, beginning at 11 a.m. on 44th Street. The parade will march up Fifth Avenue and finish at 79th Street around 4:30 or 5 p.m. MetroNorth will run extra trains to and from the parade on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines.
The Scene
March 17:
Floats, dancers and musicians will take to the streets Sunday for the New London Irish Parade. The parade begins at 1 p.m. at the Waterfront Park and will feature Gov. Dannel Malloy as Grand Marshall.
The annual O’Hartford Road Race takes place on the holiday itself. The race begins March 17 at 12:30 p.m. and includes a 5K, kids’ race and restaurant relay. Expect runners to flaunt their Irish pride with costumes and face paint.
Fairfield runners will take their places at Jennings Beach at 11 a.m. for a four-mile road race and two-mile fitness walk St. Patrick's Day Classic. The Fairfield kids’ fun run and youth race begin at 10:15 and 10:35, respectively.
What better way to relax after a run than with traditional Irish food and drinks?
Mohegan Sun’s Lansdowne Irish Pub & Music House begins its day-long St. Patty’s Day party at 11 a.m., with live performances starting at 4.
McLadden’s in West Hartford will host Sunday-morning kegs and eggs complete with Guinness and Jameson.

Starting at 11 a.m., O'Toole's in New Haven will host Irish dancing and live bands.
The Irish-American Community Center in East Haven will celebrate with an Irish breakfast and traditional games beginning at 10 a.m. The day continues with live musicians and dancing.
East Hartford community members can attend a social dance party from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Circle of Life Dance Studio, 50 Chapman Place. Admission is $10 per person.
March 24:
The Madison Leprechaun 5-miler will begin at 11 a.m. at the Madison Surf Club.
Over in Mystic, the 10th annual Irish Parade kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Mystic Seaport. Other Sunday parades will take place in Greenwich and Danbury, both at 2 p.m.
