Memorial Day Events

This is a partial list of Memorial Day events in the state.

Andover: Veterans and those serving are invited to ride or walk in the parade. Parade information is at the Andover Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. and the parade starts 8:45 a.m. The parade route begins on School Road to Hebron Road (Route 316) to Memorial Park (Route 316 and Route 6), then to Center Cemetery for memorial observance.

Ansonia: The 107th Ansonia Memorial Day Parade will be held on Sunday, May 26, at 2 p.m. It starts at Nolan Field and will proceed along Wakelee Avenue, down Jackson Street passing in review at City Hall and proceeding to Big Y Shopping Plaza on Main Street. The theme is "Ansonia's Tribute To Those Who Served and Who are Now Serving Around the World" and a brief ceremony will be held at the front of City Hall to honor veterans. Staring at noon, there will be shuttle bus service from the parking lot at Naugatuck Savings Bank in the Big Y mall.

Branford: Monday, May 27 – Memorial Parade at the Stony Creek Flagpole at 8 a.m. In the event of rain, ceremonies will be held at Branford High School at 10 a.m. The Naval Parade will begin at Hubbard Bridge at 9:15 a.m. at Hubbard Bridge. A Memorial Day Parade will also be held at the Branford Green, Town hall Drive, at 10 a.m.

Bridgewater: Parade starts at 8:20 a.m.

Brookfield: Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m. The parade starts at Brookfield High School, down LongMeadow Hill, left on Route 25 to Center School off of Route 133. http://www.brookfieldct.gov/Pages/BrookfieldCT_News/01AD13F8-000F8513

Canton:  May 27, at 10 a.m. The parade will start on Dyer Avenue at the Intermediate School. Dyer Avenue will be closed at Simonds Avenue to Thru Traffic starting at 9:30 a.m. Sections of Maple Avenue, Bridge Street (Route 179), Main Street and Huckleberry Hill Road will be closed for the parade starting at 10 a.m. Residents of Main Street must remove vehicles from the road by 9:30 a.m.

East Hartford
: The Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday and starts at 10:30 .m. on Burnside Avenue.

Fairfield: The Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 27, starting at 10 a.m., rain or shine. The parade starts at South Pine Creek and Post Roads; right on Old Post Road; left on Old Post Road past the reviewing stand at the Town Green and disassembles at South Benson Road. The parade theme is Red, White & Blue We Honor You.  The Armed Forces in Iraq & Afghanistan, Thanks for Taking a Stand.

Groton: The Mystic and Noank Memorial Day Parades will be held on Monday. The Mystic road closures will occur at approximately 1 p.m. on Monday and will remain in effect until approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the parade.  The closures are:

  • West Main Street, from the Drawbridge to High streets
  • Water Street, from West Main Street, to New London Road
  • Pearl Street, from West Main to Clift streets
  • Gravel Street, from West Main to Clift streets

Noank road closures will occur at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday and will remain in effect for a short period of time after the parade is complete.  These closures include:

  • Elm Street, from Brook Street to Prospect Hill Road
  • The Village area including Mosher Avenue, Ward Avenue, Main Street, Pearl Street, High Street and Sylvan Street.

Hamden: 77th annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 27, starting at 10 a.m. at Hamden High School and continuing north along Dixwell Avenue to the Memorial Town Hall. After the parade, there will be a wreath ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in front of Hamden Middle School. After the invocation, wreaths will be placed at the Memorial.

Middletown: The Memorial Day Parade in Middletown will be held on Monday, May 27. Between 10 a.m. and  12:30 p.m., the following roads will be closed:
 

  • Main Street will be closed between Spring Street and Union Street.
  • Pleasant Street will be closed between Main Street and South Main Street.
  • Washington Street (Route 66) will be closed between High Street and Dekoven Drive.
  • Spring Street will be closed from the Arrigoni Bridge to Pearl Street.
  • Access to Route 9 and the Arrigoni Bride will remain open.

Wallingford: The Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m. at Dutton Park on
North Main Street. After a brief ceremony, the Parade will step off at approximately 9:30 a.m. and proceed to Doolittle Park where the main program will be held.

In the event of rain, the program will be held at Lyman Hall High School at 10:00 a.m.

West Hartford: The West Hartford Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m. Parade units will assemble at designated areas west of Woodrow Street on Farmington Avenue. The parade order is posted online here.

Westport: Westport’s Memorial Day parade and ceremonies will be held on Monday, May 27. The parade starts at 9 a.m. from Riverside Avenue and will end in Parker-Harding Plaza.  Memorial Services will follow immediately on Veterans Green. If the parade is canceled due to extreme weather conditions, call the Parks & Recreation cancellation line at 203-341-5074 or visit the website: www.westportrecreation.com   Announcements will also be made on WICC 600AM. In the event the parade is canceled, services will be held in the Westport Town Hall auditorium starting at 10 a.m.

Wethersfield: The parade will be held this year on Saturday, May 25. The parade will step off at 9 a.m. and will head west on State Street to Nott Street then to Garden Street. It will then proceed down Garden Street, left onto Church Street and then right onto Main Street. The parade will continue on Main Street, then take a left back onto Garden Street to Broad Street. The Reviewing Stand will be on the Broad Street Green. We will then proceed north on Broad Street and cross Marsh Street to the Village Cemetery (behind First Church) for the cemetery services.
