Kentucky Derby Celebrations in Connecticut

Looking for a true Churchill Downs experience while you watch the Kentucky Derby on Saturday? There are plenty of places planning to celebrate Derby Day in traditional southern style.

The Essex River Valley Auxiliary, will be hosting their annual Kentucky Derby party, Saturday at 225 Hempstead Street in New London.

It takes place from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and all proceeds will go to benefit the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut. Jockeys will be in attendance and will be available for photo opportunities.  The event also includes a live auction, friendly wagering, and dancing to live music alongside the Connecticut River.

Foxwoods will be hosting a traditional Kentucky Derby Party at the Grand Pequot Ballroom.  Guests are encouraged to wear their finest hats for the hat contest and red carpet walk. Free mint juleps and souvenir glasses will be given out along with other prizes. Tickets are $25 and doors open at 10 a.m.

Milford’s Fine Arts Council plans to host their traditional Kentucky Derby Gala Saturday from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Tickets are $25 if you purchase them ahead of time, or $30 at the door. The event will feature a live viewing of the Derby, a fabulous hat contest, plus food and drinks from local merchants.

The night will include prizes, a 50-50 raffle, gift certificates, and bets on horses. Celebrated pianist, Lucas Wong will perform throughout the evening. Visit Milfordarts.org to purchase tickets or call 203-878-6647. 

The Laurel House in Stamford will host a Kentucky Derby Day Dinner Dance. The evening will begin with a special viewing of the race, followed by games, a silent auction, dinner and dancing.
