AT&T Fires Software Designer for Next Generation 911 System

AT&T, the main contractor for the state’s troubled rollout of a modern 911 system, has fired the company that designed the software currently being used, the NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters have learned.

The Next Generation 911 system is designed to better pinpoint calls, accept text messages, and maybe even photos and videos, but there were some major hiccups in July, halfway through the deployment, when almost all of the dispatch centers in the state shut down.

Soon after, residents and first responders said they were losing confidence in the multi-million dollar upgrade.

On Friday morning, AT&T said dispatchers would switch to the “West” platform,  esume updating dispatch center software in January and complete the upgrade ini 2017.
