The town manager of Avon has confirmed it will formally announce the retirement of its longtime police chief in the coming days.

Chief Mark Rinaldo was put on leave almost a month ago regarding unspecified conduct.

Since Rinaldo has opted to retire, the town will not pursue an investigation of what Rinaldo allegedly did.

An interim director of police services has been appointed.

The town will begin a search for a new chief next year.
