The NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters have new information on the Connecticut woman involved in a deadly police chase and shooting in Washington, D.C.
According to the autopsy on Miriam Carey, she was shot five times. Four of those shots. came from behind. The Troubleshooters spoke exclusively with the Carey family in February.
The autopsy was performed by the D.C. Medical Examiner, and given to us by the Carey family attorney. It's a document that the general public cannot access, and it isn't the only interesting development in this case.
The D.C. Medical Examiner says 34-year-old Carey was shot once in the head, three times in the back, and once in the shoulder when she led the U.S. Capitol Police and Uniformed Secret Service on a pursuit last October.
The autopsy report also indicates all but the wound to the shoulder entered her from “back to front” and there were no drugs or alcohol in her system.
The Carey family, which has filed a $75-million claim against the federal government and is calling for criminal prosecution for all of those involved, says this further brings into question what happened last Oct. 3, when the 34-year-old mother is reported to have driven her car through a gate at the White House southeast entrance, and refused to stop as she turned around and left.
The pursuit, which went on for less than 10 minutes, ended with an unarmed Carey shot and killed, her 1-year-old daughter strapped in a car seat in the back of her sedan.
The NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters also learned of a recent federal hearing in which the Capitol Police chief discussed the incident for the first time. He told people questioning his officers' actions, “There's a lot of opinions out there but most of them are wrong, and uneducated.”
The chief also emphasized how fast this all happened, adding that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Capitol Police officers involved in this remain on paid administrative leave.
None of the agencies involved would comment to the NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters about the Carey autopsy.
