1/25: Classical Guitar, Poetry and Australian Wine

PLAYING THE CLASSICS:  Usually recitals are filled with parents taking pictures of their children as they struggle through a piano solo or tip-toe through a tap dance.  But tonight at Yale, you can see some classical guitar the way it was meant to be played.  Benjamin Verdery is performing a Faculty Artist Recital at Morse Recital Hall.  The program includes Bach's Cello Suite No. 6 in D major and Albéniz's Andalusian-inspired suite Cordoba.

DINING DOWN UNDER:  Say G'day to Monday at Burton's Grill in South Windsor tonight.  The restaurant is offering a special Australian Wine Dinner.  Diners will be able to enjoy a delicious meal (try some pan-seared beef tenderloin on for size) paired with wines from South Australia's McLaren Vale region (including sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon).  The dinner is $65.  6:30pm.

THE SPOKEN WORD:  Looking to express yourself?  Bring your notebook, and perhaps a little courage for an open mic at the Russell in Hartford tonight.  It's the Monday Night Love Jones Experience.  The night is all about poetry, spoken word artists and singers. The evening is hosted by Peaches, and backed up by a DJ.  Call 860-724-4014 to sign up.  There's no cover, and reasonably priced food to boot.  9pm.
