Two people are dead after their cars collided head-on around 8 p.m. Wednesday on Route 44.
The victims are Edward Navarro, 77, of Pomfret, and Pauline Leblanc, 70, of Putnam, Connecticut state police said.
Navarro was driving his 2005 Lincoln Town Car westbound and struck another vehicle, police said. His car careened off the other vehicle and then continued on for about 500 yards before striking Leblanc's 2000 Town Car head-on, police said.
The driver of a third car was not injured.
