4 Running Routes to Train for Marathon

Since Memorial Day, Hamptons Marathon cofounder Diane Weinberger, along with her partner Amanda Moszkowski, has spent Sunday mornings leading a group of runners in hot-pink T-shirts around the east end of Long Island in preparation for the September 24 race.

Each week she maps a new route or digs up an oldie (she has a bank of 45 routes saved on the runner's website mapmyroute.com), always aiming for a bit of a challenge, some shade, and whenever possible, a glimpse of the water. Since they depart from the same place each week (the parking lot of East Hampton running store Gubbins), her routes have limitations, though she finds interesting ways to mix up the scenery.

Click into the gallery to see (and pilfer) Weinberger's four favorites, which should keep you happily distracted while you train. If you're inspired by what you see, join her any Sunday through mid-September (for free!) to run with company. And no need to feel intimidated by the distances, which are creeping up as the race approaches (the shortest run is 4 miles long)—each run has early exit points for anyone who can't or doesn't want to hang the whole way.
