4/15: Life After Taxes

THE TAX MAN GOETH: It's Tax Day, and hopefully you've got all your "t"'s dotted and you're "i"'s crossed (Wait, scratch that.  Reverse it.). And now that the weight of the IRS is off your shoulders, it's time to celebrate. There are some great deals to be had to celebrate another year of paying off the government (that sounded more bitter than intended).

  • P.F. Chang's in West Hartford is offering a "Tax Relief" special giving you 15 percent off your food and beverage bill.
  • Rizzuto's in West Hartford has a special "1040" meal, with a selection of appetizers, salads and entrees priced at $10.40 each.
  • Need a quick Tax Day sugar rush? Cinnabon bakeries are offering free cupcake bites between 6 and 8 p.m.
  • And Morton's in Hartford is looking out for our accountant friends. They're drawing the name of one CPA (sorry, names had to be in by today). That lucky number cruncher will win a free stake and seafood dinner for two.

IDOLATRY:  No, this isn't an event about the Ten Commandments. Head to Storrs tonight for a little UConn Idol. See if the students have what it takes to perform with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Daughtry or even Sanjaya. And be ready to cheer on your favorite performers when they take the stage at the Jorgensen.  Tickets are $15. 7:30 p.m.

PUTTING THE A BACK IN A CAPELLA: OK, so that made no sense, but I needed some sort of headline and that's the best I could do. Any-who. You may recognize the group Straight No Chaser from their popular version of classic carol, "The 12 Days of Christmas." But tonight, the all male A Capella group will make a springtime visit to the Bushnell in Hartford. The band has a knack of melding marvelous melodies (like the alliteration?) with a unique sense of humor. Tickets are $22. 7:30 p.m.

ERNEST DISCUSSION:  Fans of classic American literature will want to head to Middletown tonight (get ready for the rush!). The Russell Library is hosting an "Evening with Ernest Hemingway." We know, he's been dead for almost 50 years. Actor Richard Clark, a veteran of the theater, will portray Papa, and give the audience a glimpse at the author's life from WWI through the inauguration of JFK. From 7-8:30 p.m.
