8/11: Hip Hop, Blues and Cavemen

LAST GIRL POWER:  There are some artists that don't really need a description.  Just say their name, and the music comes right with it.  And that's quickly what's happening to Rihanna.  With her current hit "Rude Boy," the Grammy award-winning superstar has become the first female artist of the past decade to have six #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.  And tonight, Rihanna is bringing her Last Girl on Earth Tour to Mohegan Sun Arena.  Rihanna will be joined by rising star Ke$ha.  Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $80 and $100.

THE LANG AND SHORT OF IT:  He's only 29, but Jonny Lang has already made his name as a grizzled blues guitar veteran.  Lang started playing guitar at the age of 12, and he's been recording music since he was 15.  At the tender age of 16, he released his hit album "Lie to Me," which went multi-platinum.  Since then, Lang has played with music legends like the Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Aerosmith, B.B. King and more.  He even played for President and Mrs. Clinton.  Tonight, he's playing for you at the Ridgefield Playhouse.  Tickets are $90.  The show starts at 8 p.m.

THE FUNNY THING ABOUT MEN AND WOMEN:  Every comic has a bit about the differences between men and women, and how they go through the world.  There are self-help books, romantic comedies, entire industries devoted to the subject.  And you know, what?  It all barely scratches the surface.  Starting tonight at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, you can check out the latest humorous foray into the man/woman genre.  "Defending the Caveman" is Rob Becker's funny, insightful play about the ways the sexes relate.  Tickets for the show, which runs through August 22nd,  are $32.
