8/23: It's a Beautiful Day

SIPPIN' TIME: Some of the best wine in the area will be on display tonight at Grant's in West HartfordBedell Cellars from New York will host a special wine dinner. The five-course dinner will pair the winery's offerings from merlot to chardonnays and more with food offerings like sea scallops with fresh corn. The head of the winery will even offer insight into the evening's festivities. It's $75 to attend. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.

INITIAL ENJOYMENT: We've said it before and we'll say it again -- there's almost nothing better on a Monday than extending the weekend, at least for a little while. And if you head to J. Gilberts in Glastonbury during happy hour, you can pretend the it's still Saturday night. From 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m, you can enjoy $5 appetizers, $6 martinis and wine and $3 draft beers. It's the perfect way to ease into the week.

ELEVATION: Over the past 30 years or so, no band has made the impact that U2 has. Sadly, Bono, Edge and the boys aren't coming to Connecticut tonight, but their music is. The premiere U2 tribute band 2U (creative right?) is taking the stage at Mohegan's Wolf Den. You can hear all your favorite hits without having to pay the ungodly ticket prices the band charges. In fact, you won't have to pay at all. The free 2U show starts at 8 p.m.
