8/30: Another Musical Monday

LADIES NIGHT:  Antigone Rising has perhaps one of the most fun band names to say.  Say it with me, "Antigone Rising."  See?  It just rolls off the tongue.  Anyway, the all-female rock band (formed by sisters Cathy & Kristen Henderson) is bringing their melodious name (and their melodious music) to Mohegan Sun's Wolf Den tonight.  Antigone Rising, known for their relentless touring, found themselves in the spotlight a few years ago with their album From the Ground Up.  Their free show starts tonight at 8 p.m.

GETTING LYRICAL:  Are you a shower singer, and want to take your talents to the next level?  Have you been scribbling poetry for years, and finally want to share it with others?  Tonight's your night, as "Anything Goes!" at The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown.  Their open mic lets you display your skills in a supportive setting.  Recite a poem, sing a song, dance, perform some spoken word, the microphone is yours for the asking.  J-Cherry hosts the open mic from 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m.

CINEMATIC ROCK:  A unique musical experience awaits you tonight in New HavenTexas-based instrumental quartet "They Will Destroy You" will take the stage at Toad's Place.  "They Will Destroy You" is an all-instrumental act that has often been linked to the sub-genre of "post-rock" (talk about getting specific), but they strive to transcend the tag and carve their own niche in the rock world.  The band strikes their own balance of electronics, strings, and all sorts of rock harmonies.  Tickets are $12.  Irepress, Constants and West Meets West will also perform.  The show starts at 8 p.m.
