8/4: Cartoon Art, Wine and the Weirdest Supergroup Ever!

From a band featuring members of Hanson and Smashing Pumpkins, to a warped exhibit of cartoon art, it's gonna be a unique night

MMMBAND:  Ok, would you go to a concert that featured the lineup of Hanson, Smashing Pumpkins, Fountains of Wayne and Cheap Trick?  Probably not, right?  How about if, through some odd, cosmic melding of music, they formed a supergroup?  That's just what's happening tonight at Mohegan Sun's Wolf DenTinted Windows features Taylor Hanson (Hanson), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) and Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick).  Sounds odd, but worth a listen.  8PM.

PUTTING THE ART IN CARTOON:  The New Britain Museum of American Art has a new exhibit that features the work of Sam GibbonsGibbons uses his passion for animation and cartoons to create truly unique work.  At first glance, his pieces (often done on carved wood panels) look bright and jovial, but as you look deeper, they shift toward the sinister (pay close attention to the different roles bones play in each painting).  The show runs through August 25.  It's just $9 to see the show.

IN VINO VERITAS:  Eat and drink your way through Italy without ever leaving Manchester.  Cavey's Restaurant has their Weekly Wine Tasting: Italian Treasures starting tonight.  For just $25, you will be expertly guided through a menu of classic Italian food, and some great Italian wines to match.  The menu includes marinated calamari, basil oil poached tuna, spaghetti with caramelized garlic, chicken tenderloin and biscotti.  And that's just the food. (please don't ask us to pronounce the wines, just know you'll enjoy them.)  6PM.
