Babysitter Pleads Guilty in Boy's Death

A babysitter pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor after she banged a 1-year-old boy’s head against a wall.

Yalines Torres appeared before a judge Wednesday, to face charges in the death of 1-year-old Elijah Gasque.

She was babysitting in her apartment at 76 Main Street when she put the baby in a sleeping bag and swung him around, hitting Elijah's head hit the doorframe, officials said. He later died.

The victim’s mother, Julie Adkins, said her son had a bruise when she picked him up and Torres said it was the result of the kids either fighting over a toy or playing.

Torres’ friends claimed it was an accident.

Torres is expected to get 30 years suspended sentenced after 16 years and five years probation. She will be sentenced on Sept. 21.
