Barefoot Contessa's Fave Fish Joint

Despite celebrity visits from the likes of Robert Pattinson and the Barefoot Contessa, Duryea's Lobster Deck is most proud of its family-run history and the regulars who've been coming since the early days.

Perry Duryea Sr. purchased the business—an ice and seafood distribution company—in the 1930s. At the time, Duryea's sold all fresh fish caught locally. After Perry Jr. returned from World War II in 1948, he bought a submarine chaser and converted it into a lobster carrier to bring fresh-caught lobsters down from Maine and Canada.

Though times have obviously changed, Duryea's is still a family business specializing in fresh seafood. “There’s a certain consistency here that's a big selling point,” says 62-year-old Perry Duryea III.
