Beluga to Reunite With Mariachi Band

Juno and the band became famous through YouTube.

Juno, the beluga made famous by a YouTube video, will be reuniting with the mariachi band that serenaded the 9-year-old whale.

Los Trovadores de America, a Hartford-based mariachi band, played for the whale during a wedding at Mystic Aquarium in July and the adorable video captured national, if not international, attention. So much so that it has been viewed more than 1.7 million times as of Tuesday morning.

Well, the aquarium has invited the band back for Cocktails with the Whales on Thursday night. The event, for adults age 21 and older, runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and the musical moment happens from 7 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

The Karl Kelly Trio will also play in front of the Arctic Coast exhibit, home to the aquarium’s three resident beluga whales. In honor of the day, Ocean Blue Catering, based in Mystic, will be serving its signature “Belugatini.”

The event will cost you $5 per person, plus whatever you spend on drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Reservations are recommended and you can make them by calling 860-572-5955, ext. 336.
