Car Hits Driver, Downtown Building: Cops

A pedestrian was badly hurt after being hit by a minivan in Hartford on Monday morning, police said, and the driver is in the hospital after crashing into a building in downtown Hartford.

The van hit the walker and then crashed into the building on Old State House Square on Main Street around 7 a.m., police said.

Candy Valente, who owns AJ's at Main and Asylum streets, told the Hartford Courant that a customer entered her convenience store about 6:45 a.m., said the "car hit a woman and then hit the building," and asked that she call 911.

Police have not released the name of the driver or the pedestrian.

What caused the crash is not known. No charges have been filed.
