Girls Accused of Beer Brawl Lies

Five teens gave police false info over brawl that led to lost eye, police said

Five teenage girls are in some trouble for what they told police about a beach brawl that led to a teen losing an eye.

The problem started in June when people who were not invited to a party on Walnut Beach in Milford tried to steal a keg of beer from the beach, police said.  Thirty to 40 people were at the beach when the fight broke out, prompting a brawl, witnesses told police.

Police, looking into allegations that Brian Matyasovszky, 24, bashed Timothy Calzone, 17, in the face with a beer tap at the party, causing him to lose an eye, interviewed three 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old.

The girls have since been arrested, accused of giving Milford police misleading information, which was later proved false, hindering an investigation, Officer Vaughan Dumas, spokesman for the department, said.

The five girls were charged with giving false statements and interfering with police.

They were released on $500 bail. All are due to appear Jan. 7 in Superior Court.

Matyasovszky was arrested last week on a warrant charging him with assault and criminal attempted assault, both in the first degree.
