Cheeseboy Grilled Cheese Returns to Milford

Grilled Cheese To Go started in Milford and now it's back under a new name.

There is something about a grilled cheese sandwich and people driving through Milford on Interstate 95 now have a place to grab one to go.

Cheeseboy: Grilled Cheese to Go opened on Tuesday in Milford at the southbound service plaza on I-95.

Michael Inwald opened his first grilled cheese shop, "Grilled Cheese To Go," at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford in November 2009 and have been expanding ever since.

On Feb. 8, the mall location closed in preparation for the move to the service plaza and now Milford again can enjoy a grilled cheese.

“It all started for us in Milford,” Inwald said. “We’re glad to be able to continue to serve our loyal local customers while reaching a new audience of travelers. This is a great next step in building our brand awareness as we continue to grow and prepare for franchising.”

The idea for a grilled cheese restaurant came when Inwald was enrolled in a start-up incubator program at the Yale School of Management. In the summer of 2009, he began testing his restaurant idea at county fairs throughout the state.

Over time, friends began to call Inwald "Cheeseboy" and he changed the name to “Cheeseboy: Grilled Cheese To Go.”

Inwald will open the eighth location at Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City, New Jersey in April and expects to begin franchising this year.
