Astonishing Acrobatics: Cirque du Soleil's Quidam kicks off a monthlong stay at Hartford's XL Center. Originally a big top production, Quidam was transformed into a bold, large-scale event for this year's North American tour. The elaborate spectacle tells the story of Zoé, a young girl who escapes her lonely childhood by sliding into the imaginary world of Quidam. Tickets are $35-$100. 7:30 p.m.
Hypnotic Sounds: Brooklyn-based experimental psych quartet Woodsman is playing a free show at BAR. The Denver natives have landed kudos from influential music blogs like Brooklyn Vegan and Pitchfork. Check out "In Circles," a haunting single off their upcoming October 25 release, Mystic Places. Instrumental collaborators Snake Oil open, so the room should start to fill up early. No cover. 9 p.m.
Jersey Boys: Trees Above Mandalay, a pop-rock quintet out of Rockaway, NJ, are headlining on The Webster's Underground stage. The band's Twitter bio states that they "write songs that make us happy and hopefully make you happy:)" Yep, there's an emoticon. Certainly not the hardcore or metal fare we're used to at The Webster. Expect a young crowd. Tickets are $10. The Awakening, Lakshmi, The Orphan The Poet, Machree and Angry Bears are supporting. Doors open at 6 p.m.
