Interstate 84 in Waterbury was clogged for hours and three people were sent to the hospital when a driver headed the wrong way Wednesday morning.
Delton Rogers, 36, of Waterbury was driving his SUV west in the eastbound lanes when he hit a tractor-trailer, police said.
Three passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Rogers collided with the truck on the highway near Waterbury just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, backing up traffic for about four hours.
State police closed I-84 eastbound between exits 25 and 25A while they investigated. During that time, traffic was detoured onto side roads.
Police cleared the scene of the crash around 6 a.m.
