A new local brewery is about to hit the ever-expanding list of craft beer offerings.
Charter Oak Brewery is Connecticut's newest brewery, located in Norwalk, according to its Facebook page.
It's bottling its first batch of "Charter Oak's 1687 Brown Ale."
The beer is a dark copper color and promises to be sweet and malty with a distinct flavor from their specialty roasted barley. It's medium bodied, not too bitter and slightly more robust than a traditional English Brown Ale.
The brewery, which obviously gets its name from the state's most famous tree, currently has four permanent beer styles; 1687 Brown Ale, Royal Charter Pale Ale, Wadsworth India Pale Ale and Stanford Tavern Extra Special Bitter. They are also working on a bunch of seasonal ales like a Porter, Stout, Kolsch style, and Dubbel.
The brewery says its working hard to build a stronghold in Connecticut and the Northeast with in the next five to seven years.
The crew at Charter Oak hopes to have its first batch in the market for the week of June 18.
