Cruiser, Van Collide, 7 Hurt

Seven people were hurt in Manchester when a police cruiser and a minivan crashed Wednesday night.

The cruiser had its lights flashing and the siren on and was headed to the Squire Village Apartment Complex to respond to a complaint about a knife fight when the cruiser and a van carrying six people crashed at the intersection of McKee Street and Hartford Road around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The occupants of the minivan were all rushed to Hartford Hospital, where some of the passengers might be in critical condition, police said.

The officer was rushed to Manchester Hospital, where he was treated last night and released.

Police say none of the injuries are life-threatening.

An independent team is investigating the cause of the crash, including the speed of both vehicles, and looking into whether the driver might have run through a red light.
